"so he set out on a great ship to the Americas where he would find his fortune in pixel mining.”
I asked a friend and editor with a sense of humor to help me with this rather awkward and painful task of writing about myself. That's an excerpt, true enough.
I was born and raised in Sweden. As a teenager I suddenly ended up in New York City, but the Hudson Valley of New York State is now my long-time home.
In 1996 I took a big plunge. Documentary photography is all I wanted to do. I started freelancing here and there, then found work as a staff photographer for newspapers. 20-years later through good times and bad, the industry newspaper industry had crashed and later yet, I got laid off. I didn't look for another newspaper job.
I'll still occasionally take on a freelance bit for a newspaper or the Associated Press, sports or features, feels nostalgic, but I mostly do portraiture, events, architectural, art reproduction and still-life for institutions, colleges and corporations.
